There are many flowers with very thin leaves in nature, most of them very tiny. I knew I wanted a forest of flowers. Flowers that danced around me. Surrounding me. I wanted to be small inside something big. I just started to weave leaves, 60 of them. I played with leaves creating shapes. The most simple was the best solution. When colouring the structure of yarns led the eye to the middle of the flower where leaves connect. I built a black hole there, that your eye can drown in.
I connected some of them to motors so they really danced around the room. Others moved around by air. A few just kept their place turning slowly. I could walk among them. Like a roof above me. New perspectives give new shapes. Shadows moving on the wall. Turning. Dancing.
In 2013 I reworked the last parts of the sculpture Hypertrofi, two flowers and a bud – and thanks to Statens Konstråd it was placed at the University of LInköping. In a light shaft at the Department of Computer and Information Science.
The Museum of Decorative Art and Design, Riga, is organizing this 5th Triennial to the theme of “Diversity & Unity”. The exhibition will take place from 23 April to 10 June, 2015 at the Exhibition Hall Arsenãls where also the very first Triennial in 2001 had been shown in conjunction with the 11th ETN Conference in Riga, Latvia 1). The theme was selected due to the fact that Latvia will become the country of presidency for the EU in 2015, therefore the emphasis lies on national identity in the context of the EU and the global world.
My work FLOS ARTIFICALIS will be shown. Welcome!
If you walk into Tyresö Konsthall you will be surrounded by flowers. Waterlilies turns slowly while the forest of big blue stareyed flower dance around in the room. Shadows create moving drawings on the walls. Your senses open wide as there is so much to watch. Further into the room some flowerbuds slowly open. Turn towards you and close again. Shifting shape. Some drawings in air are stitched to the walls. Large portraits using symbols to tell about life inall its complexity. All you need to do is exist. Experience. Sense.
During february-march I participated in an exhibition with 28 artists at Gallery Eva Solin. All of us showing smaller works. My sculptures were bought by Södermanlands Municipality .
The exhibition FAS Goes North is a project which study the north part of Sweden, Norrland. What are our impressions of Norrland, the vast land with few persons per sq km? Is it exotic? What is there apart from the beautiful nature and the mines? What topics rise in us when we look at it? Thirtythree of the artists in Fiberart Sweden show work, all of them inspired by Norrland.
I decided to work with my inheritance from my grandparents who came from up north. The patterns that lie beneath the surface and shape our life through generations, if we don´t process them… I built a small tree which is growing despite harsh conditions. It is surrounded by water which hides what´s beneath the sruface and mirror what´s above. I wrote a short text to accompany the work because I am intrested how text and sculpture can interact and make each other stronger.
Att sträcka sig – ett försök att fånga mina norrländska rötter
Träd står kvar på samma plats även om det blåser.
Träd kan falla men först måste de knäckas.
Träd sträcker sig och växer långsamt.
Blad faller när hösten kommer.
Blad virvlar i vinden.
Blad spränger fram när det blir vår igen.
Vatten är stilla i väntan på vinden.
Vatten kastar tillbaka ljuset som bryts i ytans droppar.
Vatten håller det som är under ytan dolt.
Rötter suger girigt i sig.
Rötter tränger fram under jorden.
Rötter balanserar det som är ovanför ytan.
Människor är inte träd.
Vi kan ha rötter överallt.
In november 2014 I showed two scupltures at the small Gallery at Konstnärshuset, Stockholm. The waterlilylike VATTENVÄXTER surround you when you walk into the room. It is as if you walk into a painting of Monet. When you walk through the work your body move air and everything start turning. The round green leaves float around while the flowers turn slowly. Shadows dance. It gives a feeling of fluidity, like water.
Further into the room the work FLOS ARTICALIS take place. Five flowers are connected through a network of roots and cables. Like humans they shift between different ways of being: They turn inwards, close as buds, drawing energy from inside, retreating – or they open wide, available for impressions, blossom with full expression. Life is a dance with different rythms, we turn inward or outward or keep our focus on both at the same time.
The Society of Danish Textile Artist and Designers invited me along with eigth collegues to be Guest Exhibitor at the Juried Exhibition Minitex 2014. The large sculpture STJÄRNÖGON have the honor to greet you when you walk into the room. The wonderful exhibition hall was origianlly built in the 1700th century to be a library which it was for many years. It is part of the wonderful Round Tower and well worth a visit. Enjoy!
